Second Harvest of NWNC is an agency that addresses hunger in the community through many outlets, from meal distribution to educational programs. Based in Forsyth County, they serve 18 surrounding counties. Their philosophy is that access to food is a basic right and their programs work to strengthen food security across the state. They have a large partner agency network to distribute food, with over 500 agencies working with them. This translates to feeding approximately 70,000 people per month.

From October 2022 to October 2023, 27,000 more people per month have been accessing Second Harvest’s services. There are many causes for this growing need – rising housing costs, general inflation, and access to affordable child care are the biggest drivers of this trend.
