Spotlight With David Daggett: Supporting Second Harvest
What are your most fond holiday memories? For many of us, the holidays are the most exciting time of the year. The sights, sounds, tastes and smells of this time of year bring back memories of holidays with family and friends gathered around the table. But not everyone is so fortunate. As we move into the holiday season, it is so important that as a part of the community and broader family of the Triad, we make sure that our neighbors have all that they need. Please join me and the staff at Daggett Shuler in supporting the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
Each November our team at Daggett Shuler holds a food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina. Each year we try to outdo ourselves in how generous we can be for our neighbors. It warms my heart to see our staff show up each day during our food drive with grocery bags full of healthy, nutritious food to donate to the Food Bank. Taking action through a food drive is meaningful and makes a distinctive difference in the lives of those who are hungry.
One in five adults in Northwest North Carolina is food insecure. One in four children are hungry in our community. Seniors in our area on fixed incomes are often forced to choose between buying enough food and covering their medical expenses. And though these statistics are stark, they only show the need that existed in our community before the pandemic and the most recent tough economic times.
