When I am out speaking in the community and helping promote organizations like the We Care House at St. Peter’s Church, H.O.P.E. (Help Our People Eat), the Second Harvest Food Bank, and other similar organizations, members of our community seem to be amazed at the hunger and food insecurity right here in our community.  It surprises me, too!

One in five adults in Northwest North Carolina is food insecure. One in four children are hungry in our community. Seniors in our area on fixed incomes are often forced to choose between buying enough food and covering their medical expenses. And though these statistics are stark, they only show the need that existed in our community before the pandemic started. This year things are even worse, and our collective help is needed even more.

The holidays always seem to be the toughest and reveal the starkest realities in our community.  For most of us the holidays are fun times with family and friends, but for others the holidays are just another tough period that they hope to survive.  This holiday season, I encourage you to join me and our law firm to help the hungry in the Triad by donating to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina.
