Truck drivers do Americans a tremendous service by transporting much-needed items and goods where they need to be, day in and day out. When driving on the highway, you will likely encounter at least one trucker at work, delivering essential cargo to or from a destination. In this case, other motorists must drive safely and have patience around the oversized vehicle to prevent a collision. Operating these massive vehicles requires great skill as the average tractor-trailer weighs about 20 times more than an average car at a whopping 80,000 pounds.

Much of this is in the control of the truck driver. There are many ways a trucker can operate their vehicles safely and responsibly to prevent an accident. This includes getting adequate sleep, paying close attention to their mirrors and trailer, and scanning their surroundings. Typically, this is already an integral part of most truck drivers’ routines. However, like any other profession, there is always the possibility of an accident.
